RCEP – China

On the 15th November 2020, 15 countries signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which upon ratification, will become the largest preferential trade agreement by economic output in the world, with the potential to increase trade and integration among the economies of East Asia. China and Thailand have passed the legal proceedings in February and March respectively, while Japan just passed it on April 28. It is expected that most of the members will ratify the agreement within 2021, that RCEP will become effective starting from January 2022.

Together with China, other countries taking part in the agreement are Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, and Thailand.

The general objective of RCEP is to facilitate the trade of goods and services and to create a competitive investment environment, with a particular focus on:

        – Rules of Origin

        – Tariffs reduction

        – Simplified customs procedures

        – Investments simplification

        – Intellectual Property protection

        – E-commerce

        – Public procurement

The unified Rules of Origin together with the enhancement of access to different markets are expected to make investments in more than one country a valid and attractive strategy for companies. Furthermore, the common Rules of Origin will also lower the cost of supply for firms whose supply chains are spread on the whole Asia. Moreover, corporations in RCEP countries might be encouraged to create supply chains in the whole block, increasing the value chain activity of the region.

At D.B. Group we stay at our customers’ side to assist them in every step of their supply chain management. With our branch offices in China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Australia we will be able to provide the best solutions on customs, logistics and transport operations to make sure you will benefit of all the advantages arising from the RCEP.

Latest News

Golden Week

From the 1st to the 8th of October, our branch offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Qingdao and Chengdu won’t be operational and will resume normal activity on October 9. Hong Kong and Taipei branches, instead, will be closed only on the 1st and 2nd October. Please take note that during the period that precedes this holiday, demand for exports will intensify. This can further increase the possibility of inconveniences.

Shipping Peak Season

We also inform you that the shipping peak season is currently shaping, due to both by a slight increase in demand and a major reduction in space availability, and it is impacting on both air and ocean services.

Ocean Freight

The cost of both import and export operations is increasing due to the decrease in the holding ability of vessels. This situation is mainly caused by the large number of blank sailings, which are consequently bringing pressure to load activity. We are also recording a shortage of equipment in some Asian ports (mainly 40’ and 40’HC containers).

Air Freight

Both air import and export are suffering from lower space availability due to the reduction of both cargo and passengers’ flights. Consequently, the cost of the service is rising. This trend might continue through the half of October.

To reduce the risks of delays and missed pick-ups, we kindly ask our customers to book their shipments in advance, scheduling their activities as soon as possible, and communicating any special request during the booking activity.

For more information please contact our offices.

We shall advise you for every relevant update.
